Weighing Your Heart

Weighing Your Heart

This artwork of the weighing of the heart incorporates an Egyptian painting on papyrus that I purchased in Egypt for around 12/12/2012. I have added a background of golden sand and blue for the waters of the Nile river. A sacred temple for a sacred space is constructed around the rite. In the weighing of the heart rite in Duat (undeworld) judged by Anubis (who dicated the fate of souls), the heart of the deceased is weighed on the scale against the feather of the goddess Maat, who personifies truth, and what is right. If a heart was heavy, due to the negative choices made during its lifetime, it was flung into the Nile to be eaten by crocodiles.
